Suprisingly, the two items referenced in the title are not related.

We had a bit of a mishap here today. Not sure why, but one of our outlets actually caught on fire. So we’re having an electrician come out to replace that one and inspect the others. Bakke wasted a perfectly good fire extinguisher on it (is was up for using the wet end of a paper towel, which would be effective and safe [not to mention cheaper], but Bakke doesn’t realize that I do know schnat when it comes to electrical stuff. It’s not like I haven’t done this before).  In any case, that was fun.

Felicia and I went to all sorts of cool food shops today. First we went to World Foods, then the Keeweenaw Coop, and then Econo Foods. Made sushi and sesame chicken for dinner, but sadly, Felicia (cook du jour) took a bad turn with her flu-like achiness (which I may have mildly contracted) and couldn’t eat any of it.

Finally, the unveiling of “Teh Fuct Box II.” This screaming deamon of a machine is  a whopping 350MHz (50MHz less than TFB I), with 656Mb RAM. It’s got a funky Mad Dog OEM DVD player in it, and it’s running Windows 2000.

Some may ask “Why aren’t you running Linux on it?” Because, and this may come as a shock to you, but Linux would suck on this machine. Sure there are distros that could work, but there are problems with them performance wise. Windows 2000 works with all of the hardware we have installed, and runs lightning fast once it’s loaded. It runs movies straight off of my external hard drive with ease, thanks to the crazy amount of RAM we have in it (comparably). The stats:

  • 350MHz Intel Pentium II
  • 654 Mb RAM
  • ATI  3D Rage Pro Video Card
  • Quantum Fireball CK20.0A 20Gb HDD
  • Quantum Fireball ST 3.2A 3.2 Gb HDD
  • Asus P2B-F Motherboard
  • 3Com Ether III ISA Network Adapter
  • DLink DWL-G112 USB Wireless Adapter
  • Yamaha DS1 Sound
  • Mad Dog DVD Drive
  • Cirque Touchpad
  • Compaq Keyboard
  • Samsung 33″ HDTV
  • 5.1 Surround via Reciever

Yeah, it’s kinda messered up…

Hmmm….

Crucify

September 10, 2006

I know I’m just another Judas, kiss your face
While I drive the nail through your hand
I know I’m just another Thomas, won’t believe
Until I feel the hole in your hands
Then I will say, my God, I see not what you see
My God, what do you see in me?
My God, crowned in glory
The lamb of God is worthy

My sin yells, crucify! louder than the mob that day
My sin yells, crucify! louder than any mouth.

Verse Two

Second class, same as the first class.

Well, not exactly. Surveying is trig with satellites. Statics is trig with force vectors.

I got a pair of noise cancelling headphones via Woot.com via Bakke. They are great! There are quite literally the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. And they sound superb as well; always a good thing.

What’s a bad thing: Overdrawing two bank accounts. It’s not that I don’t have moeny, it’s that the banks do not recognize that I have indeed deposited cash into their adamantium plated vaults of safety. I deposited my paycheck on Friday, but have had no movement on it yet, but luckily the other transactions havent gone through either. It made paying for books today, well, an adventure. Which card worked? Which one was declined? Oh no!

Very interesting, though, that my card is being declined entirely instead of letting me overdraw even more. Perhaps this has to do with the change of address I went through at the bank, in which case, I can understand (although, they didn’t ask for any recent mail, etc to confirm my address…odd…)

Class? Yeah, it happened. It wasn’t too bad and I felt really good waking up this morning. Of course, I dreamed I could not get to sleep, which led to a restless night, the ultimate result being that I honestly do not know how much sleep I got. Only class today was Surveying lab, which is, for all intents and purposes right now, trig with satellites. Tomorrow is my first “full day,” be it a far cry from my hellish Mondays. Thursday is Surveying lab and IME meeting, and I’m done at 1pm, and Friday is K-Day, so it’s a half day, meaning I only have one class to attend that morning. Way to kick off the school year, eh? Give us so much free time our first full week kills us. Did I mention I’m maxed on credits this semester? Good times…

Only other news is that I’m back up and running with a dual screen setup for my tower. That means I have two monitors, which makes work so much more efficient, not to mention I have 3200×2400 resolution

Bed time was an hour ago. It’s gonna be a long night…

Oh the things you will see!

September 4, 2006

Now that Jill is officially my fiancee, I’ve been working over a lot of stuff in my head. What it all boils down to each time, is that I’m not really scared of what will come our way. I’m pretty easygoing about life to begin with, and I know that we have a bunch of stuff to plan in the next two years. But the big picture just hasn’t frightened me in any great way.

Which is a half lie.

Which is a half lie again.

I’m not worried about what will come our way, I’m worried about who and what I will become in the following years. Will I be the man God and Jill need me to be? How?

I guess I’ve got the time to learn.
